Lyft and Partner4Work to address employment barriers with discounted rides

Lyft Inc.'s Pittsburgh operations and Partner4Work announced a partnership Tuesday that will allow local PA CareerLink participants to receive discounted rides to people in their first two weeks of employment, according to a news release.

The idea behind Lyft’s Job Access Program, which launched pilot programs in several cities in October, is to remove transportation from the list of barriers many people face in getting and keeping a job. The CareerLink participants can access the discounted rides until they earn their first paycheck.

“We know that transportation issues not only affect individuals looking for work, but transportation challenges also stymies growth for the region’s business community, with no one industry or sector immune from this challenge,” Earl Buford, CEO of Partner4Work, said. “We’ve heard from our partners in manufacturing, construction, health care, and financial services that a business can not grow if skilled workers can’t get there.”
