Learn & Earn

Learn & Earn (General Program)

The Learn & Earn general program is for young people ages 14-21 to work up to 25 hours a week over the course of 6-weeks at worksites across the County and City.

Through Learn & Earn, youth are placed with community-based organizations where they are hired, trained, and assigned to a worksite for the summer. For many participants, Learn & Earn is their first job experience; for others it has become their consistent summer job.

Program dates for 2024 are provided below:

Application opens: March 1

Orientation Week: June 17 - June 21

Work Experience: June 24 - August 2

If you have applied to general Learn & Earn before, do not create a new account. Please log in to your account from the previous year, our applications support centers will be able to provide you with assistance if you need help reconnecting to your application.

Each applicant is required to have their own email address for creating their application. If more than one person in your family is applying, each individual will need their own email address.

Where applicants (18 and under) will not need a work permit to apply, they will need to submit a permit prior to starting work on June 26. We highly suggest you obtain your work permit early and upload it to your application.

PAST LEARN & EARN SUCCESSES

Summer jobs are great for kicking off professional tracks and learning new skills, but for the employees who, despite all odds, go above and beyond, it's a chapter that often changes their lives forever. The exceptional employee, in this case, is Lynnise Barham.

After being accepted into the Learn & Earn program with Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Lynnise was connected to a permanent job at Fudge Farm. Regardless of catching three buses, crossing one bridge, and dropping her four-year-old daughter off every morning at daycare, Lynnise was always on time and ready to jump head-first into her duties.

As a result of her great work, Lynnise's employers Walt Rainey and Molly Rainey, stepped in to support the future of her career in a unique way. In August of 2020, the Rainey's created a fundraiser to connect Lynnise to a reliable vehicle that will make her commute to work, daycare, and classes at CCAC, much easier.
