Title: Data Analyst Intern

FLSA status: Non-exempt, temporary/part-time
Compensation: $20.00/hour
Duration: 3–6 months
Summary
Partner4Work connects funding, expertise, and opportunities to develop a thriving workforce in the Pittsburgh region. The Data Analyst Intern will support the Policy and Data team on several defined projects, leveraging a variety of tools, including Microsoft Power BI, to interpret and evaluate local workforce program data. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply data and visualization skills in a real-world public sector environment, contributing directly to reporting and program oversight that serves job seekers and employers across Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh.
Primary Projects
The intern will be assigned to one or more of the following:
1. WIOA State Performance Dashboard
- Description: Design and develop a Power BI dashboard to support quarterly state performance reporting, incorporating historical trend data and functionality to analyze outcomes across the programs and providers in Partner4Work's portfolio.
- Deliverable: A functional, repeatable Power BI dashboard replacing the current manual quarterly one-pager.
2. Local Labor Market Analysis
- Description: Analyze available local labor market data sources to identify informative trends and patterns relevant to Partner4Work’s programs and employer engagement work.
- Deliverable: Summary findings, visualizations, and documentation of data sources, methodology, and key takeaways suitable for internal use and stakeholder communication.
3. Power BI Report Performance and Optimization Review (if time permits)
- Description: Review existing Power BI reports for performance and structural inefficiencies, with a focus on opportunities visible to a technically capable reviewer without requiring deep organizational context.
- Deliverable: Documented findings and recommendations for review by the Data Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute assigned projects within the scope described above, producing quality deliverables in a timely manner.
- Document data transformations, model structures, analytical methodology, and process steps clearly and thoroughly.
- Communicate progress, questions, and findings regularly to the Data Manager.
- Support ad hoc data requests and other data team tasks as needed & assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI, including dashboard development and basic data modeling concepts (required).
- Ability to access, interpret, and synthesize publicly available labor market and economic data sets.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with clear direction and communicate questions and status proactively.
- Strong written communication skills for documentation purposes.
- Interest in or familiarity with public sector, nonprofit, or social services a plus; domain knowledge of workforce development is not required.
Desired Experience
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor’s or master’s program in data analytics, information systems, computer science, economics, statistics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience with Power BI through coursework, projects, or prior work experience.
- Prior experience working with real-world, labor market, or similar data sets preferred.
