Samantha Lyons Earn, EDSI GED Prep Success Story

Samantha Lyons has been actively participating in EDSI’s GED Prep class since the beginning of April. Lyons is motivated to gain the skills needed to pass the GED Exam, earn a stable job, and build a career for herself and her family. What keeps her showing up to class every day is her youngest son, Aries, a ball of energy and constant motivator. 

Lyon’s proudest accomplishments have been gaining confidence in herself and becoming a better writer and editor. “I am able to write a lengthy essay that is completely understandable. I have not been in school for over a decade, and honestly, I didn’t think I could write anything that was readable or didn’t come across as nonsense. Through work and discussion, I have realized that I can do this, it is just hard sometimes.”

What she enjoys most about the class is that it’s personable. The instructor, Doug Penhallegon, helps every student at their own pace until they feel ready and prepared to take the exam. After completing the class and obtaining her GED, Lyons’ goal is to work with animals. She hopes to secure employment at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.
